Intercom Standardization Provides Increased Simplicity and Reliability
After years of building schools, Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation in Bartholomew County Indiana found themselves with many different manufacturers and types of school intercom systems. Schools rely on these systems to broadcast daily and emergency communications and sound the bells for the class schedules. Technology has brought many ways for school personnel to communicate (telephone, voice mail, email, mass notification applications) but the school intercom remains the quickest and most reliable method to communicate to an entire building of people at once.
With eleven elementary schools, two large middle schools, and Columbus East and Columbus North High Schools as well as specialty buildings, maintaining these systems had become an enormous task for the facility and maintenance staff. Ferguson says likes that he is now able to check on the systems remotely, maintain a limited number of spare parts, and provide a better overall level of service and reliability to his schools. He especially likes the ability to make programming changes through a simple web based program from any computer. While the technology meets their needs, Ferguson says it is the Fairchild Communication Systems, Inc. team that really impresses him and affirms they made the right decision. “They are very quick to respond and have always treated us right and fair. Over the years, they have pulled us out of some tough situations when systems were damaged by water or lightning. They had the parts and the talent to restore the systems quickly with minimal impact to the safety and operations of our schools,” he explains.
