Systems Engineer Position Open

A detail-oriented and skilled low voltage Systems Engineer responsible for the planning, estimating, and engineering support for low voltage systems, including but not limited to structured cabling, intrusion detection, access control, intercom, audio-visual (AV), and video surveillance systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background and the ability to interpret specifications, drawings, and other bid documents. Systems Engineer is a corporate position supporting all branches of Fairchild Communication Systems.

ENGINEERING RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • System Design & Engineering – Develop system designs based on client requirements, industry standards, and best practices.
  • Technical Drawings & Schematics – Create and review CAD drawings, signal flow diagrams, and other documentation.
  • Equipment Specification – Select appropriate equipment for each project.
  • Collaboration with Vendors – Work with manufacturers and distributors to stay updated on technology trends and product availability.
  • Support project management teams during handoff and project execution phases.
  • Compliance & Standards – Ensure designs meet industry standards (e.g., AVIXA, NEC, ADA, OSHA) and local codes.
  • Project Documentation – Prepare system submittals, as-built documentation, and technical reports.

ESTIMATING RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Cost Estimation – Prepare detailed project cost estimates, including materials, labor, subcontractors, and contingency costs.
  • Proposal Development – Create competitive and accurate proposals, including scope of work and pricing breakdowns.
  • Bid Analysis & Vendor Negotiation – Obtain pricing from vendors and negotiate costs to optimize project budgets.
  • Project Scope Definition – Clearly define scope, deliverables, and exclusions to prevent cost overruns.
  • Risk Assessment – Identify potential risks that may impact project costs and timelines.
  • Value Engineering – Propose alternative solutions that maintain functionality while reducing costs.
  • Collaboration with Sales & Project Teams – Work closely with sales, project managers, and engineers to align estimates with project feasibility.
  • Tracking & Reporting – Maintain historical cost data for future budgeting and estimating accuracy.
  • Attend site visits, pre-bid meetings, and client consultations as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent work related experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in low voltage systems (voice/data, security, fire alarm, AV, etc.).
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting architectural and electrical drawings.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and codes (NEC, NFPA, BICSI, etc.).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple estimates/projects under tight deadlines.
  • Experience with estimating and design software such as Bluebeam, AutoCAD, or similar preferred.

PREFERRED CERTIFICATIONS (a plus, not required):

  • BICSI RCDD
  • Manufacturer-specific certifications (e.g., Genetec, Avigilon, Crestron, etc.)
