Technology Improves Senior Safety and Staff Efficiency

If — or when — the time comes to move a loved one into a senior living community, it can be a difficult and emotional time.

For most families, their primary concerns include:

  • Will my loved one be safe?
  • Will they receive the best possible care?
  • Will the new living arrangement be affordable for our family?

These concerns are mirrored by the owners and operators of assisted living communities across the country. Providers who invest intelligently in technology are often those who are best suited to address these critical resident and family concerns.

Working with the Industry

Fairchild Communication Systems, Inc. recently partnered with two Indiana leaders in the senior care industry to develop a personalized approach to resident safety.

Hoosier Village, located in Indianapolis, is a life plan community with independent living homes, assisted living apartments, rehab and memory care all nestled on an idyllic 80-acre campus. The Towne House Retirement Community, located in the vibrant heart of Fort Wayne, is a healthcare facility and senior living community in a more urban setting.

While residents and families value the care and amenities both have to offer, the staff and operators of these communities recognize the inherent potential risk these settings present.

Our team of professionals at Fairchild Communication Systems, Inc. met with the owner’s leadership team to conduct an in-depth assessment of the current procedures, processes and tools related to emergency and non-emergency communications. A physical survey and a comprehensive budget review revealed additional challenges. Fairchild’s healthcare engineers collaborated with the owner’s stakeholders to develop a cost-effective, personalized technology platform for increased staff efficiency.

Outdated Practices Replaced by Cost-Effective Solutions

The advanced technology provided by Fairchild replaced inefficient practices jeopardizing resident care. The new wireless communication systems provide reliable emergency alerting and non-emergency check-in options that appeal to residents, family members and staff. The wireless call system design enables the owners of these communities to incorporate life-saving technology on their campus without the expense and hassle of cabling.

The wireless pendant grants residents the opportunity and independence to confidently enjoy the campus amenities and surroundings. Residents have the assurance that if they experience a medical emergency, such as a fall or disorientation, they can readily receive medical assistance with the simple touch of a button. The small, light-weight pendant with embedded technology alerts staff, allowing them to immediately locate the resident’s whereabouts and provide necessary care.

Further, the new non-emergency protocols allow residents to easily check in with staff by pressing an identified button at specified times. Healthcare teams are alerted within a certain period if the resident fails to check in electronically.

The new wireless communication systems, enhanced by Fairchild’s technology, increase staff efficiency, provide greater peace of mind for families and advance independence for residents.
